Melvin Loop

This loop of 47km takes you from Manorhamilton to the village of Rossinver, along the southern shore of Lough Melvin to Kinlough and back through the magnificent valley of Glenade. The views are wonderful, especially after Rossinver as you rise along the side of the hills and look down on the expanse of Lough Melvin. On the return leg from Kinlough there are breathtaking views of the Dartry and Truskmore hill ranges with their steep escarpments and stream-ribboned mountainsides. The road surface is top notch from start to finish with very little traffic.

From Manorhamilton head out the Rossinver Road where you immediately encounter the main climb of the route, 5km averaging 3% with an elevation gain of 130m. This climb is relatively easy, equivalent to a Category 4 hill. There is a lovely descent into the village of Rossinver. Pass through the small collection of houses and look for the left turn signposted for Kinlough. Soon you will pass the Organic Centre on the left, which is open March through October and is Ireland’s primary centre for organic horticulture. The road rises and falls with wonderful views of Lough Melvin on the right. Continue to Kinlough and turn left back for Manorhamilton, taking in the breathtaking views of Glenade Valley on your way.
