Dowra Loop

This loop is just over 100km and takes in one significant climb between Dowra and Blacklion. The roads are all good quality with little traffic and there are many fine views of Cuilcagh mountain and Lough MacNean. Three major lakes feature here, namely Lough Allen, Lough MacNean and Lough Melvin. Dowra is a great spot for an early coffee stop, as Rourke’s shop has an excellent coffee machine and a nice window counter.

From Manorhamilton head for Dowra via Drumkeerin, then turn left for Blacklion. As you descend after Gubaveeny keep an eye for the right turn for Stranamort. The climb starts here - when you reach a crossroads give way and go straight on. This brings you to Gowlan chapel where you turn left, and near the summit of the climb you can see the Cavan Burren Park off to the left. At the start of the descent there is a fabulous view of Lough MacNean from Cornagee. Descend with extreme caution as the road is narrow and steep with a sudden exit on to the Killinagh old road. Turn right for Blacklion and Belcoo. In Belcoo turn left for Garrison, and return via Rossinver and Kinlough.
